Success for Tynedale Gymnasts
15/07/2010
Gymnasts from Tynedale Gymnastics Club, based at Wentworth Leisure Centre, took part in the North of England Apparatus Championships last week, held at South Durham Gymnastics Club. The four-piece competition attracted over 250 competitors from all over the north of England, who performed a floor exercise, vaults and routines on the asymmetric bars and beam.
Tynedale gymnasts aged ten to 14 years took part with fantastic results - the club's best ever in this particular competition. Sophie Hollows, aged 13, won the overall gold medal in the under 14's category, whilst Lois Wright took the bronze. Eleanor Donkin, aged 13, came fifth overall. The under tens showed nerves of steel and all gained top ten places against some very tough competition!
Tynedale Gymnastics Club recently became the first club in Tynedale to be accredited with 'GymMark', a nationally recognised kite mark of a quality gymnastics club awarded by it's governing body - British Gymnastics. The mark recognises that the club is safe, effective and child friendly.
The club has over 50 gymnasts in its competition squad aged between five and 16 years. As well as local and regional competitions, the squad also takes part in international competitions in France, hosted by partners in Mitry-Mory.
The club is currently expanding it's training sessions for squad members and a session will take place at Wentworth Leisure Centre on 29th July for budding gymnasts aged six to nine years to try out. To book a place at the try outs please call reception on: 01434 607080.
This year the Northumberland Gymnastics Festival will be hosted by Tynedale Gymnastics Club on 7th November, where gymnasts and trampolinists from all over the county will be competing at Wentworth.
